Best Horror Movies of 2016

Top5 of 2016 |
  1. 10 Cloverfield Lane - I love everything about this movie. Great directing and setting. Great story and script. Flawless cast... Especially John Goodman who was larger than life. The most terrifying moment of this film was when Goodman shaved and then broke out the ice cream. This is absolutely worth buying on Blu Ray.
  2. Hush - I love director Mike Flanagan. I love Fairhope, AL where this was filmed. I want to make a movie with Mike Flanagan in Fairhope. This flick is incredible. It needs to hurry up so I can buy the DVD.
  3. I am not a Serial Killer - Holy smokes! The story that unfolds with I am not a Serial Killer is interesting as anything, but it's the acting that drives this movie to greatness. Christopher Lloyd is as good as I heard he would be. Max Records was a huge surprise... how can someone with "no emotions" carry the narrative? Somehow he did it. I saw this on Netflix. I'm trying to find the DVD.
  4. Train to Busan - I agree that Zombie movies are tired. But this one really is a good watch. It has the best wing man since Sam in Lord of the Rings. I want to watch this again soon.
  5. The Invitation - In order to enjoy a movie I typically need to bond with the characters. I did not bond with a single character in this movie, but the story was very well executed. Tension was built on everyday things that could be nothing or could be something. Good stuff.
Honorable Mentions |
  • The Green Room - I didn't feel the same connection to the characters here as I did with Blue Ruin, but I really liked this movie a lot. Worth noting that this was on my Top5 until I am not a Serial Killer edged it out.
  • Autopsy of Jane Doe | Based on the buzz around this one, I was very excited to see this movie. The cast was great (especially Brian Cox) and the first half was a lot of fun. I didn't, however, particularly enjoy the second half. Maybe my expectations were too high. In the end, the exposition delivery was beating us over the head. The reveal of the oddities were a little disappointing compared to the mystery. I have no doubt that I'll enjoy it more on a second viewing, but for now I'd recommend Redbox or streaming it without buying the DVD. But it is worth watching for the first half.
Watch List | I haven't seen these yet. I'm excited about them and wouldn't be surprised if one or two ended up moving onto my Top5 when I find them:
If I get the chance to watch these with Redbox or Netflix I will because I've heard good things about them, but I'm probably not going to buy these movies:
