- Game of Thrones, Season 3: I'm relatively new to the Game of Thrones. And I do like the show, but I cannot binge watch it. It's intense and I tend to need a break between seasons. I'm looking forward to a few movies before S4. But S3 was rock solid. It follows the exact same pattern as S1 & S2. Episodes 1-8 are slowly building up to something, Episode 9 is the big event they've been building up to and Episode 10 lays the groundwork for the next season. Along the way they throw in some violence and whatnots to keep things moving. S03Ep09 was a punch in gut... in a good way. I could tell something was coming, but I didn't think they'd take it as far as they did. I'm impressed and I cannot wait to see what happens next. But first I'm going to check out Department Q.
- Daredevil, Season 2: I cannot stand Daredevil. I've never liked dark superhero movies & series because I want to be inspired by superheroes. They should be they best of us. They should make us want to fly & do good deeds. One of my all time favorites superhero moments was in the Amazing Spider-man... you know the scene; it was in the trailer. A kid was trapped in a car that was about to fall off a bridge, Spider-man was hanging on to the car and trying to help the little guy climb out before it was too late. He told the child to put on his spider mask because it would make him strong. It worked. Spider-man handed the kid to his father and went off to face the bad guy. End Scene. I could watch a whole movie of that. Daredevil doesn't really inspire anyone... he says he believes in people but he usually just beats the sense of them. Add Punisher and Electra and of course the season got very, very dark. On top of that Matt spent more of the show pushing Froggy away. Froggy was a Mighty Duck & a bash brother. I love Froggy. So what happened in the end was that Season 2 got darker and further away from the moral compass. The violence had a few Oldboy moments, but for the most part it was over choreographed. The relationships between the characters were soap opera level drama. That said I am a sucker for soaps and I cannot wait for Season 3. I know that I won't enjoy it and I know that I won't want to miss a minute of it. The Punisher was flawlessly played by Jon Bernthal, but the surprise belle of the ball for Season 2 was Clancy Brown. He wasn't in it very much but that dude can steal any scene.
For the record, my Top5 favorite superhero movies are (in no particular order):
- The Avengers
- The Batman Superman Movie: World's Finest
- Captain America: the Winter Soldier
- The Rocketeer
- Superman II
But the Amazing Spider-man gets a very honorable mention for having that great moment with the kid, the mask and the hope.
