What I watched this week: Cell

It's been a while since I've seen anything other than ICWXP. I love that show and so can you.

But I did break the binge for one little flick:
  • Cell (2016): John Cusack is a curious little guy. He does 2 types of movies: the first are passion projects that probably didn't have a budget but clearly had a very talented writer and/or director (maybe Being John Malkovich)... the second is some garbage that pays the bills so that he can do the first type of movie (think 2012). But Cell's odd because it's just a lower budget piece of garbage. I assume that he was drawn in for the experience of being executive producer (but that's just because I like the dude and don't know off the top of my head if he's ever been an EP before). I was looking forward to this movie and actually rented it from vudu  for $9.99 because I liked the trailer. I wanted to see John Cusack and Samuel L together again. I miss my $9.99. I think I might feel better about it though if someone would just explain the ending to me. I counted 3 endings. Maybe 2 were fantasies from the last ending, but that doesn't really make sense to me with the whole hive mind concept. It just felt like a mess. Mind you, I grew up in the 80s and believe that Stephen King movies are fun when they're rough around the edges (Children of the Corn, Creepshow, Pet Semetary, etc.). But this movie just fell flat from the minute the outbreak started (thanks bluetooth guy from the toilet). If you see the trailer and think the concept looks interesting, skip this movie and check out the Signal and Stake Land instead.
Meanwhile I'm going to sit here wishing I'd bought 2 episodes of ICWXP instead...
