What I watched this week: Cold Prey / Fritt Vilt

I haven't posted recently because I haven't actually seen anything... which is always a shame... especially since my hometown just hosted a huge film fest. I digress...
  • Cold Prey (2006): A group of friends go on a snowboarding holiday. One of them breaks a leg and they have no choice but to take shelter in an abandoned hotel for the night. Eventually they learn that someone is living in the hotel… antics ensue. This is a slasher movie done right. It follows the formula right down to the transition in atmosphere (from safe to sinister) and it has an iconic boogeyman that looks intimidating as anything. I got this for $5 on VUDU and so should you, but keep in mind that the VUDU version is dubbed in English. Also, I've spoken to a few people that confuse this movie with Dead Snow. I can see that... both are snow covered and both are worth watching, but if you're sick of horror comedies... Cold Prey is the more serious of the 2. There are a few sequels… and the second does have striking similarities to Halloween 2, but again, they did it right and can be held up as an example of how "it" should be done. I haven’t seen the 3rd movie yet but hope to as soon as I can find it.
