Zombie love: February 2016 Movie Marathon

I love zombie movies.

The first one I can remember seeing was the B-17 segment in the Heavy Metal Movie. I was way too young and it scared me so much that after a certain point I was actually unable to open my eyes until it was over. I loved that movie as a kid and I watched it over and over but it was a long time before I saw the B-17.

The next zombie movie I saw Night of the Living Dead. I was in High School then. I had never seen anything like it. I was hooked.

This year I wanted to watch something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue:
  • Something Old: Dawn of the Dead (1978) and Dawn of the Dead (2004) - It's rare that I would like the original and the remake, but both versions of the Dawn of the Dead are my favorite zombie movies out there and it was good to see them again because I haven't watched either one in too long. My favorite scene in the original movie was when the four were fleeing the city and someone from another group of refugees asked if they have a cigarette and they say "no we don't. Sorry." the guy leaves and all four of them light up. My favorite scene from the remake is the opening where they nailed how fast and brutal this invasion happened.
  • Something New: Warm Bodies (2013) - I have really wanted to see this but never got around to it until now. It was better than I expected considering how little noise it made on release. A sort of retelling of Romeo & Juliette with zombies. I'm not sure I want to own this film, but I'm glad I got to see it. Great story. Great cast. The only issue was that they should've done more to establish the skeletons... They didn't seem as intimidating as they should've.
  • Something Borrowed: Land of the Dead (2005) - I feel like I should love this movie so I borrowed it from a friend,I was hoping that this time I would get it. The whole cast is great. The director is amazing. The cameos are fantastic. The story seems even more relevant as the current campaign in the USA hits themes about whether or not good walls make good neighbors. But this movie was a miss for me. I dislike it as much now as I did back then. Maybe in another 10 years it'll finally come together for me?
  • Something Blue: Cockneys vs Zombies (2012): Oh my lands I really like this movie. The pace is well done... there is a nice balance of humor and tension. And in terms of story telling, they manage to cover a lot of material in the time they've got. I recommend this one and if I ever see it in store, I will have to get it on Blu Ray.
I also watched the 3rd [REC] movie. It's the only one in the series that I'd never seen before. I was told it was horrible, but I think it was better than horrible. I liked it as much as I liked the other [REC] movies. I wouldn't want to own them but they're a lot of fun to watch every now and then.
